The Beautifully Messy Home

Ok guys, is it just me or is this first week back to work after break the longest and most exhausting week ever?! Man, I am tired! Whew! I really can't complain though. I have loved hearing all of the holiday break stories from my sweet second graders. It's always crazy to see how much they "change" after not seeing them for almost 2 weeks. I swear they get taller, more mature, and just...BIG in general!

For this blog post I thought I would share the true reality about our home and probably every other home that posts home decor inspiration. I recently shared with you how we added an inexpensive shiplap wall to our bedroom. Now as you may or may not know from all of my other posts,  I love white. If my husband would allow it every room in my home would probably be some shade of white (yes there are different shades of white!) Buttttt, I don't think that will be happening any time soon, so I will just stick with my white accents.

Anyway, I had someone ask how I manage to keep everything so white and clean all of the time. My friends the truth is...I don't. And  let's be real, you probably would not be reading my blog post right now if I posted those photos all of the time. Lighting and the occasional "staging the space for the photo" is everything. I tend to have pretty great lighting in my bedroom throughout the day, especially in the morning. With good lighting comes hidden dog hair, chewed holes in the comforter, and dirt. I also chose to photograph a part of the room that was not a hot mess like the space below....Fuzzy socks, laundry hampers, clothes sticking out of drawers, random hangers, etc. As much as I would like to say I have my "you know what" together when it comes to life and keeping up with the housework, the truth is, I don't.

Better lighting, hidden clothes, and hidden laundry hampers!

Shall we continue on with the reality tour?  I'm cringing a bit more with each photo. Next up, living room, dining room, and kitchen. Oh, and remember earlier when I talked about good lighting? These photos are a prime example of how good lighting makes a huge difference. I have a slight obsession with pillows. My husband is not too fond of them and most times they end up at one end of the couch, on top of the couch, or on the floor. You may also notice all of the lovely random things laying around as well. Oh, and you see that brown blanket that does not match my couch? Yeah, that would be covering a huge hole, courtesy of our dog. When the pillows, dirty plates, hats, computers, and whatever other randomness made its way into this picture are where they are supposed to be, I try to snap a good photo.

Big difference! Better lighting, hidden mismatched blanket, hidden randomness!

Our dining room tends to be the room where I put "stuff" when I don't know what to do with it or when I'm redecorating a space. When I snapped this picture I was working on taking down Christmas decor and rearranging. Not gonna lie friends, this room probably stayed like this for a good week before I finally did something with all of the "stuff".

Lastly, our lovely kitchen. Ok, I am going to put a little disclaimer  in here (or an excuse for my own laziness). This picture was snapped a few days after Christmas when life was a bit crazy from all of the festivities. Since painting our kitchen cabinets, I have been trying REALLY hard to keep the kitchen clean. But, some days it looks like this...and you know what, IT IS WHAT IT IS!

So friends, there is my reality home post.  I have been trying really hard to keep my house clean and one of my goals for 2017 is to get better at putting things away and keeping up with the cleaning. I am definitely getting better with this. Blogging and Instagram help keep me accountable! ;) Sometimes our house looks clean, decorated, and cozy. Other times it looks like a total hot mess.  But the reality is that our house is a home. It's a place where we make messes, memories, and live. Here's to all of the beautifully messy homes out there!
