Finding the Calm in the Chaos

Happy Sunday, Friends! I can't tell you how good it feels to just sit down and write. It has been such a busy week at school and I pushed my blog time to the side. I know that chaos can leave us feeling off balance, but I think it's because we tend to push those things that keep us balanced off to the side when life gets crazy. I have found such a comfort in blogging and for the past week I have had this desire to write, but everyday chaos kept pulling me away from it. This crazy week really taught me that my escape or therapy is having that time to just be creative. Whether that be blogging or creating signs, it's my outlet.  I always found it strange when people would say that they felt "off" when they didn't work out. I really wish I knew what that feeling was like, especially since my pants have gotten a bit tighter over the past few months! Ha! But now I totally get that feeling of being "off" when you don't have that outlet. 




If you have been following along on my little journey, you know that I have been working really hard to make more time for me. Guys, it has truly made such a difference in my life!!! I have learned that it's not selfish to put yourself first sometimes. Like my wonderful principal says, "You are no good to anyone else if you don't take care of yourself first." Gosh, how true is that?! A few weeks ago I updated you on my fresh start and I shared with you a few things I have been doing to keep that focus. Although it's important that I keep my focus on those key things that have helped me so much, I would also like to set a few goals for myself. I just feel like this will keep me on track during the weeks of chaos! 


1. Make a Plan

You would think that since I am a teacher and my life in the classroom is all about planning that I would be really great at having plans in my personal life. That would be a big NEGATIVE. I am pretty "go with the flow" at home. I would really like to sit down every Sunday and plan out possible blog posts for the week. I won't be blogging every day, but I would like to get back to my 2 blog posts a week. I think that by having a clear plan for what I want to chat with all of you wonderful people about will hold me more accountable and make sitting down to write on those crazy days a little easier. This idea of making a plan can be useful in many other outlets as well (meal planning, exercising, crafting, journaling, worship, etc.) 

2. Continue with a Morning Routine

If you know me well, you know I am such a morning person. It is my absolute favorite time of the day. I will wake up early, have my coffee, read my devotional, and watch the news (Erica- I am sure you can picture me saying those words). It is usually still dark outside and most importantly it is quiet. I usually give myself at least a half hour every morning to just sit and enjoy the calmness. I know that not everyone is a morning person, but I challenge you to give it a try. Grab a cup of coffee, take advantage of the calmness and prepare your mind for a positive day. 

3.  Healthy Mind and Body

Ok, I am sharing this little goal here because I need your help! I really think that in order to maintain that healthy mind, I need to keep my body healthy as well. I have fallen off the working out and eating healthy wagon. I need to hop back on even if it's only a few days a week. So, I am going to make this a goal for myself as well and hopefully you sweet people can check in on me to make sure I am working on this goal! ;)
