Wishing on 11:11: A True Love Story

I love this blog for so many reasons. It gives me a place to share the things I am truly passionate about in life. It also allows me to reflect on my life and think back to those special moments. With that being said, I give you this story...

11:11. A time when people make wishes that they hope will someday change their lives. Well, my 11:11 wish in 9th grade computer class was the wish that forever changed my life.

As I was working diligently on maintaining that "perfect typing posture" I saw the little clock in the bottom right hand corner change to 11:11. I had my eye on this cute boy since the first day of high school when his best friend came up to me and asked if I wanted to go on a double date. I, of course, brushed it off thinking it was a total joke (I should point out that this boy was a senior and I was a little freshman and in my head, that only meant one thing...) However, I couldn't get the thought out of my mind. So, I made a wish. And are you ready for this one? I wished that the cute boy would talk to me. Ha! I know, so lame...

Then it happened and I remember it like it was yesterday. I was that little 14 year old freshman girl sitting on the bleachers at a Delone Catholic High School basketball game. All of a sudden I heard someone sit down behind me and say, "What's up?"

Ok, let's pause for a second.  How two simple and totally non-romantic words like "what's up" gave me butterflies? I have no idea. Little did I know that those words would change my life forever.

That cute boy, Donnie, and I started dating in January of 2006. I remember teachers, parents, upperclassmen, friends, etc. thinking, "this will never last" or "he's a senior and she's a freshman, he must only want one thing" I even had a few upperclassmen tell me quite a few stories about Donnie, but we won't mention them on here ;)

What most of those people didn't know about this short-tempered, stubborn, unpunctual boy was his heart. He has a genuine heart of gold and brings so much joy and laughter into people's lives. He is passionate, kind, loving, giving...I could go on and on. I never imagined that I would feel so safe, supported, and loved in a relationship and there is not a day that goes by that I question the love Donnie has for me.

Our love story reminds me a lot of my Nana and Pappy's love story. My Pappy was much older than my Nana and many, many people doubted their relationship, including their own family. But that didn't stop them. My Pappy knew that he had found the girl of his dreams the moment he laid eyes on her. In fact, on their first date he looked at my Nana and said, "You're going to marry me one day." She, of course, thought he was crazy. My oh my, love sure has a funny way of working itself out!

Like you may have noticed in my first post, married life is quite the journey, but I wouldn't want to share it with anyone else.  Here we are almost 11 years later, married, living in our own home, and our love keeps getting stronger and stronger. And to think that our love story started with a simple wish.

So, here is my advice for you. Wish for love and never give up hope that it is out there. I think we can all agree that we need a little more love in our lives, especially now. When you find that love and it's the kind of love that in your heart you know feels right, hold on to that love and never let it go. You never know, a simple wish could be the start of your beautiful love story...
