DIY Holiday Pillows

Happy Saturday!!! I have been so excited to share my FIRST DIY post with you! As you may or may not know, I have a slight obsession with pillows. I. Love. Pillows. I really love holiday pillows, but find that they can be quite pricey. I have been seeing a lot of bloggers use holiday sack bags for pillow coverings. Sarah at Little Vintage Nest  was my initial inspiration with her sack pillow cover. Check out her blog, she is amazing!

So, when I was at Walmart the other night buying Expo markers, yet again, for my second graders (teachers do you feel like Expo markers are always either dead or disappearing?! The struggle is real.), I made my way down the holiday gift wrapping section. I found these adorable reusable canvas holiday gift bags for $5.98. I'll say it again...$5.98!!! My initial thought...PILLOWS! I have put together a little tutorial for how I turned these babies into pillows!

Walmart's Reusable Canvas Tote

I used 18x18 decorative pillows in my bags. I had to play with it a little bit to make sure I got all of the bumps out. After I did that, I found that the pillows fit in the bag nicely. Make sure the straps are folded inside the bag. What is really amazing about these bags is that they already come with metal grommets and a red ribbon to help keep them closed.

After I had the pillow in the bag, I added more velcro tabs to help keep the bag closed on the sides. The velcro I used was the Velcro Brand: Sticky Back for Fabrics.

I am going to try and explain the ribbon process as best as possible...so try and stay with me!

1. Pull the ribbon through both metal grommets.

2. Bring the ribbon from the back of the bag over top and pull it through the inside of the front metal grommet (both pieces of ribbon should now be on the front of your bag).

3. Pull the ribbon to tighten it a bit, and then make your bow.

Voila! Beautifully, inexpensive holiday pillows!
