Chip and Joanna...I mean Donnie and Mikaela

Happy Thursday! We have almost made it to Friday, and for this tired teacher, those words are so, so sweet.

For this post I thought I would let you all in on a little guilty pleasure of mine. If you follow me on Instagram, you have probably witnessed my obsession, I mean love, for Fixer Upper's Chip and Joanna Gaines. Not only do I absolutely love Joanna's home decor and sense of style, but her dedication to creating homes for families to make their own memories and tell their own stories.

I am very much a "feeling" person. I have found that this is a positive and negative trait of mine. Sometimes...ok often times... ok most times, I overthink situations and overthink how people are feeling. I have found that I overthink every. single. thing. in my life. What is my saving grace? My wonderful husband, my fur baby, and... my home. I, surprisingly, enjoy overthinking what it is that will make our home a cozy place for our family to create memories. I want our house to have that "feeling" of being our home. And I think Donnie and I can both say that we are on our way to creating that together.

Here is a picture of our living room (well part of it). Are you surprised by the colors that you see? Cream...white....cream...maybe some brown...white... and more cream.

This is probably my favorite room in our home because it is where we spend most of our time as a family. I love being able to look out the window and see the pure beauty of the world right in my backyard.

Most of the decor in our home is from yard sales, thrift shops, or even the side of the road (yep, you read that correctly- someone's trash is my treasure!) In my opinion, you don't need the name brand items to make your house a home. Your house doesn't need to be sparkly clean every waking minute (don't look too closely at my pictures, you might just see the layers of dust on...everything!). Your house needs to be filled with love and the things that make YOU happy. Hallmark Christmas movies in November also make me happy...very, very happy.

Our home is one place that we have complete and total control over. No one is telling us what to do or how to decorate...it can be anything WE want it to be. I always said if I wasn't a teacher I would be an interior decorator because every home as a story (no pun intended). Homes are full of coziness, love, and memories that people make in them and they are all different.

So, I encourage you to fill your home with the things and memories that make your heart happy...even if it is that $3.00 basket from the thrift store, that old window turned coat rack, the broken rocking chair from the side of the road, or the memories of seeing your family grow over the years. Remember, your home is where the heart is. It can be made into anything YOU want it to be. It's your home and it's waiting to tell your story...
